Make a free bump chart to follow rankings over time. Enter values or ready ranks, edit the chart in your browser, then export an image or live embed.

Follow the order across periods

The sample tracks four fictional teams. Atlas leads in January, Birch takes over in February, and Atlas returns to first place in March. The chart shows their order. Use Line to compare the point gaps.

How to make a bump chart

  1. Enter one team, product or site per row and one period per column, or paste a spreadsheet range.
  2. Choose Values or Ready ranks in Design. Set the ranking direction and optionally show Top N.
  3. Download a PNG or SVG for a slide or document, copy the embed code for a web page, or copy a link that reopens the chart with your data.

Enter one team, product or site per row

Use column headers for periods and row names for teams, pages or other rows. For example:

Name Jan Feb Mar
Atlas 40 32 48
Birch 35 44 42
Cedar 28 36 45

In Design, choose Values to calculate ranks, or Ready ranks to use positions you already know. Larger values rank higher by default. Choose Smaller is better for measures such as completion time. Blank cells mean the row is absent in that period.

When to choose another chart

Use a line graph when the distance between values matters. The Bump and Line picker uses the same values. For two periods, a slope chart puts the start and end side by side.

This maker supports 1–12 named rows and 3–24 periods. Values must be non-negative; ready ranks must be positive integers. Select fewer rows from your source if it exceeds the limit. Within the chart, Top N hides lower positions while keeping their data.

Is the bump chart maker free?

Yes. Create and export a chart without signing up. Free PNG, SVG and live embeds carry the Meiku Charts mark; Pro removes it. Your data stays in your browser, and an editing link lets someone reopen the same chart.

How does the chart handle ties?

Values mode uses competition ranking: 1, 2, 2, 4. Two equal values share a place, and the next place skips the tied entries. Ready ranks mode keeps your supplied integer positions, including ties and gaps in the sequence.

What do blank cells mean?

A blank cell means the row has no observation in that period. Its line breaks instead of dropping to last place. Top N also breaks a line when a row leaves the selected positions and resumes it when the row returns.

Why can't ready ranks switch to Line?

Ranks give an order but do not reveal the original values. First and second might be separated by one point or a thousand. Enter those values and select Values mode to switch between Bump and Line without changing the data.
