Follow the monthly budget
The sample starts with salary and freelance income. Both feed the household budget, which splits into spending categories and individual costs. Every amount is illustrative. Change a value to see its ribbon grow or shrink.
How to make a Sankey diagram
- Enter Source, Target and Value, with one directed link per row.
- Choose node colors and order. Hover over a node to compare its incoming and outgoing totals.
- Download a PNG or SVG for a slide or document, copy the embed code for a web page, or copy a link that reopens the chart with your data.
Enter one flow per row
Use Source, Target and Value columns. Repeat a name wherever a flow enters or leaves the same node.

Use positive weights or No data. Repeated links are added together. The diagram supports 50 nodes, 100 links and eight stages. If it becomes crowded, group small destinations into Other.
Account for differences
A node can receive 120 and send 100. Its tooltip reports the remaining 20, and the unused space stays visible. If those 20 units represent a known loss, add a link to a Losses node. The chart never invents that explanation.
Choose another chart when the path does not matter
Use a bar chart to compare amounts, a treemap for parts of one total, or a line chart for change over time.
Is the Sankey diagram maker free?

Can I paste data from a spreadsheet?
Yes. Copy three columns with source names, target names and positive values. Choose Paste data, review the rows, then apply them. You can also open a CSV file.
Why is my circular flow rejected?
This maker supports directed paths without cycles. For a return journey, use separate stage names such as Warehouse start and Warehouse return. The error names the cycle and highlights its rows.
How do I read the diagram on a phone?
Scroll the diagram sideways inside its box. Open Links below the diagram to read every source, target, value and share in a table. The list starts collapsed.
